To calibrate and prepare myself for the forth coming Presbyterian Church USA General Assembly, I decided to try and unearth some old photos from my last General Assembly when I attended as a Youth Advisory Delegate. This time, I'm slightly more prepared, better looking, and certainly wiser. I'm Union Presbyterian Seminary's Theological Student Advisory Delegate. I feel honored to represent my peers and my institution.
The last GA I attended was in Birmingham, Alabama and was a challenging time for our denomination. However, God was present in that huge body that had gathered to seek the will of God. I'm excited to see the spectrum of the denomination gather again-- all the freaks, geeks, beauties, politicians, lawyers, teachers, ministers, zealots-- in other words, I'm glad to have the opportunity to be among the diverse body that is the PCUSA. Of course, I'm glad they're taking my raggedy ol' self in, too!
This blog is to serve as my thoughts and reflections on this General Assembly. I'm no expert and I certainly tend to be more irreverent than respectful. I believe Max Lucado once said that cynicism and sarcasm were tools of the lazy person. I must be particularly lazy. So, if you're not keen on such writing, this may not be the blog for you.
On that note, I would like to share with you my favorite Overture thus far:
10-01 | Ovt 060 | On Protesting the Blatant Disregard for the Sanctity of our Lord’s Name in Motion Pictures and Public Broadcasting—From the Presbytery of Grand Canyon. Keep your eyes out for more posts and to keep you satisfied, here is a link from my last GA and a really grainy picture of myself doing an energizer with the Clerk of the entire GA. |
